It is back, it is day one, and here are the details.
30 Days of April aka #30daysofbiking is an pledge to ride your bike every day in April and share your adventures with the hashtag #30daysofbiking.
Beyond that, it is an encouragement to ride, get ready for the season ahead, inspire others and to also be a Fundraiser for the World Bicycle Relief fund. I encourage everyone to try and donate something to support the cause.
In addition to that, I will put up a tasty something to a randomly selected participant who logs a ride every day in April on STRAVA/Garmin/Instagram Post etc. This tasty something will help you continue your riding efforts into May and beyond.
So here is how it works.
1. Shoot me an email/text/insta message (something) that you are intend to try and ride all 30 Days
2. Ride your bike, a bike, every day
3. Log the Ride on Strava/Garmin Connect some way to show you had a ride everyday (even if you just manually upload a silly ride that shows you rode that day)
4. Tag @inceptioncyclery and #30daysofbiking in any adventure posts or ride data for the ride... spread the word!
5. Have fun with it.... sometimes you have to improvise...
New for 2019 are FLEX HOURS. Really it is just a one word shot to describe both MOBILE Repair and Bicycle pick-ups during the shops "Off" hours.
What can you have done in FLEX HOURS off site (aka your house, your work, road side, trail head....)?? LOTS!
Rolling into 2019 with full intentions for everyone to ride #moreawesomer - Expanded hours and more....
2019 is here, and it is time to help everyone ride More Awesomer. To do that I have expanded the available hours for you to book in service at the shop.
There are still the regular drop in, chat cycling (over a coffee), drop off your bike or book a quick service repair hours, but now you have the ability to drop off earlier and later, or to even book a quick service or tune up repair on the spot and on your time. Those are the "FLEX"hours.
Within those flex yours you can book in on the spot repairs before and in some cases after regular shop hours, or I can meet at the shop for you to drop off your bike at a convenient time for you. Simply follow the "BOOK" buttons across the various avenues (website,facebook,instagram,google) and you decide what you want done and when.
But it won't stop there...
Later into the season there will be the added "MOBILE" option. During those flex hours you can have the shop visit you on location to complete your tune-up or repairs, and/or have your bike picked-up and transported to the shop.
With the new Online Booking you can also...
So, bring on the new year, and lets make sure everyone rides more often, and rides #moreawesomer too!
If you have been following along on Facebook and Instagram, then you are fully aware that the shop has made her move to a new long term location at 140 Welland ave in St.Catharines. The space is 90% complete, but is in full operation
If you have not been following along... well now you know. Back into St.Catharines, new space, new feel, all bike shop! The service bar is back, a great little lounge to hang out in and the shop is littered with classic memorabilia, photos and lots of vintage trinkets.
So drop in on a ride for adjustments, or to hang out and visit. Bring your bike inside with you, there are a few racks to store it while we have a chat at the bike bar!

So, winter seems to be hanging on, unwilling to loosen its grip and blossum into spring, but, that has not stopped a few of us from taking on the 30 dayas of biking challenge.

2017 Saw Michelin start releasing a line of revamped Mountain Bike Tires.... the Force XC, Force AM and Wild AM. Now, as many know, I (Inception Cyclery) prefer the try it before I recommend it, and I am pleased to say that 2018 will see a new tire offering in the shop.
Next to my love affair with Maxxis, Michelin is going to be a silent Mistress who will see more action on my bikes and the Shops demo bikes (Evil Following, Calling and Wreckoning and the Four5Bikes LuckyNo5 TItanium).
I spent a good deal of the summer riding the Force AM front and rear on the LuckyNo5 Titanium hardtail and briefly on the Evil Wreckoning. While it was not the best match for how the Evil rode, the Titanium Hardtail was completely different. I found the tires hooked up well enough as an aggressive hardtail tire yet rolled fast enough to not cause me to keep looking down thinking the tires were flat. I also dropped the pressure down to my preferred 23ish psi range, lower then the recommended 26psi minimum (Shush!... don't tell the Michelin Man). I found the grip better and the overall ride better as well.
I had them on the Evil Wreckoning during the 24hrs of summer solstice and ran them at the minimum recommended pressure of 26psi. Yes I know that the bike is overkill for the event, but I was getting ready to ride the Aspen EWS and I wanted as much time on the Wreckoning that I could. With the tires at recommended 26psi all of a sudden it felt like the bike was missing several inches of travel. Obviously it wasn't, however the additional psi over what I was accustomed to had a significant impact on the tires performance for me. Dropping it back down eliminated the issues and the tire performed exceptionally well for hard pack and slightly loose over hard pack. Surprisingly, it also worked ok in our Southern Ontario sand corners too.
Grip is left wanting on the front when you really hammer corners when the terrain is loose, but I suspect the Wild AM will alleviate this. This coming season I will run the combo so see how different it is. Hopefully I notice an increase in corner confidence along with a slight to un-noticeable increase in rolling resistance.
My only other issue, partly due to low pressure and square edge hitting a rock on "damn drop in," was a slight side wall tear right at the rim/tire interface. I could not get it to seal up, however it did sort itself out when I switched to American Classic hoops. I was planning to install them on the new wheels, figure out where the slice was and patch it, however it never showed up and the tires have been holding air all fall/winter.
So, for our Ontario trails I can certainly recommend the tires and plan to offer them as product in the store, for custom builds and for upgrades during repairs.
